The Brisbane Brass 2011 break up gathering saw a variety of well earned attendance, encouragement, best in band and membership milestone awards but there were two very special awards bestowed on the day.
Bill Barker was acknowledged, as was Linda with a 10 Year Membership badge but his involvement is in reality an unbroken loyalty stretching back to his teen years. Since his return full time to our bands in 2001 Bill has built our 3rd band into an almost invinceable D Grade operation and has led our youngsters to contest success as the only competing Junior Band in QLD. On top of that he has continued to accrue state Euphonium Championships and has won the national title in the last two years and topped that with a 2010 National Champion of Champions in Hobart.
With this enviable record Bill was awarded Life Membership of Brisbane Brass being only the 7th association member to be recognised thus in our 30 year history.
At the same function perennial Brisbane Brass darling and stalwart of Queensland banding for more yonks than most of us can remember was awarded with a QBA BADGE OF MERIT for her outstanding contribution to the Queensland Band Association and to banding in Queensland as an official accompanist. Thank You Joan!!!
Thus was the close of our third year of bands "living out of a suitcase" yet still making their mark in contests and most importantly within the community.
The good people of the congregation of St Judes Anglican Church Everton Park are to vacate the McIllwraith Street premises with a special service in the Church on 26th February and like the bands, move into "suitcase mode" while their terrific new facility for worship is constructed in Flockton Street.
At last then Brisbane Brass will truly "come home" and consolidate our prescence in our wonderful new headquarters at the corner of McIlwraith and Buller Streets in Everton Park.
Happy New Year !
